Victoria Selbach studied at the Carnegie Mellon Museum in Pittsburgh, graduating from Parsons School of Design from where she had a career in the New York fashion world. This daily background of color, texture and style merged with her lifelong fascination of an individuals face and form that constitutes her body of work. A keen sense of pictorial dynamics is at work in her focus on patterned light falling over and around the female form. Working in acrylic layers of paint, the personality and character of her model is always projected, even if submerged in shadow or obscured by glossy curtains of hair falling over the face. Her most current reviews are on the Huffington Post and Juxtapoz Magazine.
I do not use professional models but rather paint women from my life who have great vivacity and inner light. I encourage the viewer to read in whatever they choose, add his story, her prospective, informed by their experiences, fears, fantasies, whatever, it’s all good.
